Helga Duffey of Britain marked her 99th birthday by walking on the wing of an aircraft in flight, earning the title of oldest woman in the world to perform the stunt.

Duffey received an official Guinness World Records certificate after breaking the record held by Betty Bromage, who completed the feat at age 97.

The attempt was originally scheduled for Duffey's birthday on 23 September but was postponed to 16 October. The event took place at RFC Rendcomb airfield in Gloucestershire, England, with a Guinness World Records official present to verify the achievement.

The stunt also served to raise donations for the Wiltshire and Bath air ambulance service.

Bromage congratulated the new record holder but made clear she intends to reclaim the title. "I can't wait until I'm 100 and can do it again," she said. "I'll beat you again."
