A man armed with a knife and a baseball bat was confronted and removed from the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, by bystanders before the situation could escalate.

The incident occurred at the bustling global hub of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which draws thousands of visitors daily. Witnesses described the man as wearing a yarmulke and carrying a pink water bottle. He is well-known to both New York Police Department officers and site security due to prior visits. Chabad had previously filed paperwork banning him from the property.

Community members and yeshiva students quickly confronted the individual, escorted him out of the building, and turned him over to responding NYPD officers. He was arrested without any injuries reported to bystanders, security personnel, or the suspect himself. No broader threat to the public or the site was identified.

Chabad spokesman and political liaison Yaacov Behrman described the man as appearing unstable and characterized the event as a routine removal rather than a coordinated attack. “This highlights the vigilant security we maintain at 770 amid occasional disturbances,” Behrman noted.

The swift community response prevented any potential harm. The location has faced security challenges in the past, including a stabbing in 2014 and a vehicle-ramming incident in January 2026. NYPD has not publicly released the suspect’s name as of Thursday morning. Authorities continue to investigate.
