Jane Bordeaux Birthday Song Released Early Due to Oct 7

Doron Talmon, lead vocalist of the Israeli band Jane Bordeaux, has released a new single just days before her 40th birthday. "Yomuledet" (Birthday) is a country-influenced road song that weaves together nostalgia and hope, chronicling both Talmon's personal journey and the band's evolution over the past decade.

Written and composed by Talmon and Matti Gilad, the track offers an intimate look at reaching a milestone age, a moment that invites reflection, memories, and questions about what lies ahead. "I have a birthday coming up. I'm about to turn 40. No less," Talmon explained. "I would have been happy to release this song on my actual birthday, but it falls on the most complicated date on the calendar. Check for yourself. So I'm releasing it a bit early." Her birthday is October 7th, the date of the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.

The song looks backward and forward simultaneously, its lyrics tracing a path through memories, longing, and joy. "Years have passed and I still remember a honeymoon in Portugal, now we've returned to our roots playing country style again," Talmon sings, referencing the band's musical origins. Jane Bordeaux began with a distinctive country-folk sound that captured Israeli audiences when the group formed over a decade ago.

The song also incorporates family life into its narrative: "There are already two with green eyes like yours. Let's be twenty again and play until sunrise."

The song's central lyric—"I wanted something beautiful and I didn't know what, so I didn't ask for anything for my birthday this year"—expresses a deeper insight about life. "What I've understood from all this is that I still haven't understood anything," Talmon said. "Or as I told my oldest daughter Alex yesterday, we can't control the wind, we can only direct the sails. And where will we sail? We'll find out when we get there. In the meantime, we'll keep celebrating the in-between."

Jane Bordeaux has become one of Israel's beloved bands since its formation more than a decade ago, with hits including "How Is It Possible," "Einav," and "Tel Aviv Is Me and You." The band celebrated its tenth anniversary with an emotional concert at the Tel Aviv Culture Hall, featuring special guests and heartfelt dedications.

The musical arrangement and production of "Yomuledet," created by Talmon and Gilad, return the band to its original country sound. This is a conscious homecoming, as the lyrics themselves declare: "now we've returned to our roots playing country style again." The acoustic sound and catchy melodies recall the band's early days, but with the musical maturity accumulated over years of performing. In recent years, Talmon has expanded her musical boundaries, including a surprising collaboration with rapper Izzy on the song "I Said Thank You," which blended hip-hop with Israeli folk-rock. But "Yomoledet" marks a return to the band's core musical identity.

Jane Bordeaux will perform this coming Saturday night at D1 club, and on October 1st will host Alon Eder at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem. The song "Yomoledet" is now available on all digital platforms, with the official video posted on YouTube. "Is it too late or is it exactly on time?" Talmon asks in the song. The answer, as she suggests, will reveal itself along the way. For now, "Yomuledet" is a celebration of the present moment—of life as it is, with all its memories, questions, and hope for what's still to come.
