Shocking Tragedy: Jewish NYC Chef Fatally Stabbed During Turkey Trip
Authorities are investigating the incident, and further details regarding the circumstances of the altercation are pending.

Igor Alishayev, a 46-year-old Bukharian chef and nature photographer from New York, was fatally stabbed last week in Turkey’s Güneycik Neighborhood, Gündoğmuş district, during a visit to photograph the Uçansu Waterfall, located 170 kilometers from Antalya. Alishayev was staying at the home of his friend, Ismail Kara, when the tragic incident occurred.

According to authorities, on Shabbat (May 3) an argument erupted between Alishayev and Kara while they were drinking alcohol together. The dispute, the cause of which remains unclear, escalated into a physical altercation. In the heat of the confrontation, Kara, reportedly intoxicated, stabbed Alishayev in the chest with a sharp knife. Kara also sustained injuries during the fight.
Witnesses promptly alerted the 112 Emergency Call Center, and local police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Medical personnel confirmed that Alishayev had succumbed to his injuries. His body was transported to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute, where an examination confirmed the cause of death as a fatal stab wound.
As reported by yehuda Teitelbaum, Alishayiv was a beloved former gabbai of the Vorhand Shteibel.
The tragic loss of Alishayev, known for his culinary talents and passion for nature photography, has left his community in New York shocked and in mourning.
