Burned Down
How much damage did Israel's fires cause?
Days after the wildfire that swept through parts of central Israel and near the capital, the time has come to take stock.

Some 20,000 dunams of land were burned in the massive wildfires striking Israel last Thursday and Friday, which were only put out after 30 hours of effort and significant international assistance.
According to a report by Channel 13, negligence is the suspected cause of the initial blaze, with a bike rider named Shmulik Katz reporting that he saw a fire burning on Wednesday in the suspected origin point, followed by a white van that sped away.
Some 1430 firefighters took part in the effort to put out the blaze in 167 fire trucks, not including the multiple planes possessed by Israel (12) and others used to contain and put out the fire.
The Fire Services have warned that the burnt out areas remain dangerous, in no small part due to the weakness of many burnt trees, which could fall down at any moment.
