Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear in recent closed-door conversations with associates that he has no plans to exit the political stage, even if he loses the upcoming election.
According to a report by Anna Barsky in Maariv, Netanyahu stated in internal discussions: "We'll do everything to win, but if we don't win – I have no intention of retiring. I'll serve as opposition leader and we'll win in the next election."
Political sources familiar with Netanyahu's conduct and Likud's electoral machinery emphasize that these remarks should not be interpreted as an admission that defeat is possible. According to them, this is a calculated message that Netanyahu is seeking to establish now, both internally and across the entire political system.
