IDF Confirms: Cluster Bomb Left By Hezbollah Killed Teenager in the North

The IDF Spokesperson said Monday evening that initial findings from the scene of the deadly explosion in the Upper Galilee point to a Hezbollah cluster submunition left in the field as the likely cause of the blast that killed a yeshiva student and wounded 19 others.

The IDF said forces are continuing a thorough investigation at the site on Ramim Ridge, and that IDF, police and engineering units are sweeping the area to ensure no additional unexploded ordnance remains that could endanger the public.

The incident occurred earlier Monday when students and teachers from Ort Maalot yeshiva high school were hiking in the Ramim Ridge area in the north. According to the initial probe, one of the students placed the ordnance item into his backpack, and the device detonated when the group was near the road.

A 16-year-old student was killed in the explosion, and 19 others were wounded in varying degrees. The IDF declared a mass-casualty event, and rescue forces, ambulances, Unit 669 fighters and helicopters evacuated the wounded to Ziv Hospital in Tzfat, Poriya Hospital in Tiberias and Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
