Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman shared a clip Monday from a podcast he recorded with his religious daughter Michal, in which the two discuss how they maintained a close relationship in the same home despite his being secular and her being observant.
"People are amazed and moved and don't understand the fact that we live in a religious-secular home," Michal said at the start of the conversation. She then recalled a moment from her childhood: "I came to you and Ima and told you I was asking that the house have kashrus and that we keep Shabbos as much as possible. Suddenly it seems completely insane to me," Michal admitted. "A 13-year-old coming to you with a request like that - it's crazy."
Liberman responded: "We very much believe in the principle of 'live and let live.' Chareidim and religious people never bothered us. We respected your request like the request of any adult, and I can say I don't regret it for a moment. It's an approach to life."
Liberman added that he has both religious and secular friends, and they always get along with one another.
