Israel Elections 2026

Best and worst times to vote today

Election day is here, and with it the familiar question: when should you head to the polling station to vote quickly and get back to your day, without standing in long lines?

Want to vote quickly and easily? Here's how to do it without getting stuck in line.

Peak hours: when are polling stations most crowded?

Experience from past election cycles shows that voting traffic is not spread evenly across the day, but concentrates in two main waves.

The morning wave runs from 08:00 to 11:00. Many voters use the start of the day off to "get voting done in the morning" before heading out to trips, errands or family gatherings. These hours produce heavy congestion at polling stations.

The evening peak, from 18:00 to 21:00, is the busiest window of the day. As evening approaches, citizens returning from outings, trips or work pour into polling stations en masse, creating the longest and most crowded lines of the day.

The ideal window: when is it best to arrive?

If you're looking to vote quietly and quickly, these are the hours when voter flow is at its smoothest.

Midday hours, from 12:00 to 16:00, are the quietest and most recommended window. During the afternoon, many citizens are in the middle of outings, lunch or travel, and traffic at polling stations thins significantly.

Early morning, from 07:00 to 08:00, sees light traffic from early risers when the polls open, but in most locations the line moves quickly and delays are minimal.

The last-hour trap: what happens between 21:00 and 22:00?

Many voters tend to think that arriving in the final hour before polls close is a magic solution, but it's a gamble.

The risk: putting off voting until the last moment can lead to an encounter with dozens of other voters who thought exactly the same thing. A sudden surge between 21:00 and 22:00 can create a crowded line and unusual pressure.

What does the law say? Gates to polling station compounds lock at exactly 22:00 (in small communities at 20:00). However, under the law, any voter who entered the polling area or stood in line before closing time is entitled to vote, even if the process continues into the night.

The bottom line: to ensure fast, relaxed voting without last-minute pressure, aim to arrive during the midday hours.
