A tragic accident claimed the lives of two pilots yesterday (Sunday, June 7, 2026) when a U.S.-registered Gulfstream G200 executive jet crashed and burst into flames while attempting an emergency landing at La Romana International Airport (LRM).

The aircraft, with registration N318JF, had departed La Romana for Austin, Texas, after refueling. Shortly after takeoff, the crew reported technical problems, believed to involve engine issues, and declared an emergency approximately 16 nautical miles southwest of the airport. They attempted to return for an emergency landing but lost control during the approach.

The jet touched down hard on runway 29, veered off into a grassy area, skidded, and erupted into a massive fireball. No passengers were on board, only the two crew members, both U.S. citizens, who were confirmed killed. Emergency services responded quickly and contained the fire.
