American maritime historian and observer Sal Mercogliano responded to President Biden's announcement that the US would be establishing a temporary port or pier off the Gaza coast to help increase aid to Gaza civilians with a thread of posts on X/Twitter explaining the many problems involved.
As Mercogliano notes in the thread, complete with images, the US could send aid via Ashdod or El-Arish to push through aid more easily, and establishing temporary ports like the US did in WWII and Vietnam is currently far beyond its capabilities.
