The Republican majority leader in the new Senate, Senator John Thune, said Monday that if arrest warrants are issued by the International Court of Justice in The Hague against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials, the U.S. Senate should impose sanctions on the court.

In a statement on the X platform, the Majority Leader said: "If current Majority Leader Chuck Schumer does not act against the court, the Republican Party will do so and stand with our key ally, Israel."

In addition, Thune said this legislation will become a top priority in the next Congress. In September, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a confidential hearing of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that he believes international arrest warrants will soon be issued by the ICC.

"I understand that arrest warrants are going to be issued in The Hague soon... He lied to the senators who spoke to him, said he would come to Israel and didn't come," the Prime Minister said.
