The crowd was reportedly attending a demonstration organized by Verdi, one of Germany's largest labor unions, when the incident occurred. Police have launched what they describe as a "major operation" in response, with "strong forces" deployed to the scene.

The timing is particularly sensitive as Munich prepares to welcome high-profile international guests, including U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who are expected to arrive later today for the Security Conference.

Bavarian authorities are investigating the vehicle ramming incident as a deliberate attack after a car plowed into a group of people, The Governor of Bavaria confirmed that the suspect, identified as a 24-year-old Afghan national, who was seeking asylum in Germany, is in custody.
