Federal agents raided the Washington home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning as part of a criminal investigation into suspected fraud related to her immigration documents, Fox News reported.
The operation began around 6:00 a.m., led by investigators from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Department of Homeland Security.
The Justice Department confirmed that a search was conducted under a judicial warrant issued as part of an ongoing federal investigation, and later clarified that it is a criminal probe.
Two sources close to the investigation told the network that the inquiry concerns the immigration documents of Omar, who was born in Somalia. According to the sources, the documents were filled out by her late father when she was a child. No further details have been released about the specific allegations or what investigators found during the search.
The raid comes after Tom Homan, the administration's border policy chief, said in mid-September that Omar was under criminal investigation. According to the report, the Justice Department is also involved in the matter.
