Pro-Iranian militias in Iraq announced on Wednesday that at least 20 people were killed and 32 others wounded in joint U.S. and Saudi airstrikes in eastern Iraq. Militia representatives noted that the casualty numbers remain preliminary and could rise.
Widespread Target Damage
The Popular Mobilization Forces, an umbrella organization for pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, reported that the strikes hit command centers across the provinces of Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala, and Diyala. Officials within the organization added that the attack caused varying degrees of material damage to several headquarters, vehicles, and military assets.
U.S. Operational Response
U.S. Central Command stated overnight that American and Saudi aircraft carried out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in eastern Iraq. According to the U.S. statement, the joint operation targeted weapons and logistics sites following more than 30 unprovoked drone attacks directed by the IRGC over the previous 72 hours.
Military officials further noted that Iraqi militias aligned with Iran conducted over 600 attacks against American personnel and facilities between February and April 2026, warning that further military action would follow if such strikes do not cease immediately.
