Israel had warned Germany that American bases on German soil faced heightened risk. On Monday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told parliament that the suspected plot against RAF Fairford, the British air base used by American forces, was "highly likely" coordinated in Iran. He said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was almost certainly behind it.
Burnham paired the attribution with a pledge to act against Iran.
"We will not tolerate these threats on our soil. We will crack down on Iran's use of criminal networks, using our full range of powers to target them and their funding streams, and we will bring further sanctions to restrict the capacity of Iran and the IRGC to do us harm," Burnham said.
The statement goes further than his earlier remarks. On September 30, Burnham told the BBC that "we believe Iran had a part in this" but declined to give full details. Iran's embassy in London said at the time that it "categorically rejects and strongly condemns" what it called "baseless and malicious speculation" linking Iran to the incident.
