Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says he offered former IDF Brig. Gen. Ofer Winter the leading position on a combined electoral slate and that Winter has no chance of clearing the electoral threshold if he runs alone, according to a news alert by journalist Amit Segal.
Smotrich is not the only senior figure on the right to warn that votes for Winter could be lost. On October 8, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Winter at a conference of religious-Zionist rabbis that Smotrich attended. Netanyahu described two outcomes he said would hurt the right: the party fails to pass the threshold, or it passes and "its seats end up with the other side."
