Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. unveiled its latest flagship artificial intelligence model Monday, Qwen3.8-Max, claiming performance capabilities that rival top-tier global systems including Anthropic's Fable 5, as the company's stock surged on the announcement.

The model, built on 2.4 trillion parameters, outperformed competitors including Moonshot's recently unveiled Kimi K3 across multiple industry benchmarks, according to Alibaba's internal testing.

Alibaba's U.S.-listed shares jumped over 4 percent in overnight trading following the announcement, while the company's Hong Kong-listed stock surged as much as 7.3 percent, reflecting investor confidence in the model's competitive positioning.

The model demonstrated particular strength in autonomous coding and extended task execution, according to Alibaba's announcement. Internal testing showed the system can independently manage a software engineering project over a 16-day period without human intervention. Beyond coding tasks, the model can recreate software applications from screenshots, generate interactive games and educational animations, and convert two-dimensional floor plans into 3D visualizations.

To achieve operational efficiency, Qwen3.8-Max utilizes selective activation technology to reduce latency and computational overhead when processing queries, according to the company's technical specifications.

Alibaba has made Qwen3.8-Max widely accessible to global users immediately and plans to release the model weights for public download next week, allowing external developers to customize and deploy the technology locally without requiring Alibaba's cloud infrastructure.

The release follows a series of recent model announcements from Chinese competitors. Moonshot, DeepSeek, ByteDance, and Z.ai have all released updated models in recent weeks, reflecting an accelerated development pace in China's AI sector despite ongoing U.S. foreign hardware export restrictions that limit access to advanced semiconductor chips.
