Videos documenting extreme heat from around the world have flooded social media, but one clip from Brazil may take the prize for most creative response. The footage shows a motorcyclist riding down a highway with an improvised cooling system mounted behind him, complete with a household air conditioning unit, power source, and tubing directing cold air toward the rider.
As the motorcycle's engine runs and the vehicle moves forward, the air conditioner operates above the rider's back, blowing cool air around him. A visible cloud of white condensation hovering above his head gives the scene an almost surreal quality.
The reason for such improvisation is clear: Brazil, while accustomed to high temperatures, has experienced particularly severe heat waves in recent years. During one of the country's most extreme heat events, temperatures reached 44.8 degrees Celsius (approximately 113 degrees Fahrenheit).
