An 18-year-old jailer in Texas was fired after photos of her posing alongside inmates at the county detention facility where she worked spread across social media.
The images show Carla Beltran in uniform, facing the camera while several female inmates stand behind a glass partition. In some of the photos she is smiling and making victory signs; in one, she and the inmates behind her are making an obscene gesture together.
Beltran began working at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office on July 1 and was terminated on October 12, after just over three months on the job. The sheriff's office said she was still in her one-year probationary period, during which employees who fail to meet professional standards can be dismissed.
In a statement, the office said the circumstances of the photos, who took them and where they were posted, remain under investigation. It added that no criminal charges have been filed against her at this stage.
