Schools Reopen Across Israel After Lebanon Ceasefire

Israel’s school system will fully reopen nationwide starting Sunday, the Education Ministry announced, following updated security guidelines issued amid the ceasefires with Lebanon and Iran.
The decision applies to all regions, including northern communities near the Lebanese border that had faced prolonged disruptions due to the fighting.
“The system has been prepared in advance for this scenario, and the ministry will provide all necessary resources to ensure the immediate and full opening of all frameworks,” the ministry said in a statement.
Unlike previous phases during the conflict, the reopening will be implemented uniformly across the country, without granting local authorities discretion over whether to resume classes.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch said the return to in-person learning reflects both improved security conditions and prior planning by the ministry.
“The system is returning to full operation due to early preparation and out of responsibility for the reality on the ground,” Kisch said.
He described the reopening as a key step for students and educators after weeks of disruption, emphasizing the need to address academic gaps and reinforce stability.
“We must work toward a swift return to close learning gaps and strengthen social resilience,” he said.
Schools across Israel have experienced intermittent closures and remote learning since late February, when fighting escalated on multiple fronts. The ministry said it will continue providing support to ensure a smooth transition back to full classroom instruction.
