Government Approves Call up for 400,000 Reservists

The Israel Defense Forces clarified that the figure does not reflect the number of reservists currently being mobilized, but rather sets a maximum threshold to allow flexibility based on operational needs.

The government has approved raising the ceiling for reserve duty call-ups to 400,000 troops, as Israel continues to manage simultaneous conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah.

The Israel Defense Forces clarified that the figure does not reflect the number of reservists currently being mobilized, but rather sets a maximum threshold to allow flexibility based on operational needs.

According to the military, the expanded framework is intended to address challenges across multiple arenas, particularly in the context of the ongoing campaign against Iran, known as Operation Roaring Lion.

The previous ceiling, approved in December, stood at 280,000 reservists.

Since the outbreak of the war with Hamas in October 2023, the government has periodically approved emergency measures allowing the IDF to issue short-notice call-up orders and extend reserve service beyond standard limits.

Under normal conditions, the military is required to provide significant advance notice before mobilizing reservists and is limited in the duration of their service.

Officials say the updated authorization is designed to ensure readiness for prolonged and multi-front operations, as security demands continue to evolve.
