Reporter: Bennett competing to be Meretz Youth

Nadav Eyal criticizes Bennett's pledge to repeal government laws, saying opposition leaders are cannibalizing within the bloc instead of focusing on victory

Bennett competing to be Meretz Youth

Nadav Eyal, a reporter for Yedioth Aaronoth, criticized a statement by Naftali Bennett today that positions him near the left edge of the opposition camp.

"Any leader in the change bloc who is now cutting left to enjoy vibrations on Twitter is focusing not on victory but on cannibalization within the bloc," Eyal wrote.

"The only one who can and should cut left is Yair Golan because that's where he is. Eisenkot, Bennett and Liberman are supposed to bring Likudniks and not compete over who is more Meretz Youth 1994."

Eyal's remarks came in response to Bennett's statement on what he would do the day after taking power:

"We will repeal all the judicial coup laws immediately upon the Knesset's formation: 1. Committee for the Selection of Judges. 2. The Legal Advisers Law. 3. The Police Investigations Law. 4. The Communications Law." Bennett also pledged: "We will pass the Declaration of Independence as a Basic Law that will be the introductory chapter to Israel's constitution and we will legislate the Basic Law: Legislation in order to establish the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state."

Bennett had a long list of promises about what he would do after elections, the vast majority of which he did not keep.

Bennett promised that on his first day as prime minister he would approve the young settlements in Judea and Samaria, a promise he did not keep, like his many statements that he would not form a government with Yair Lapid.
