Aviation Accident: Small Plane Crashes Into Cable Wires

A devastating aviation accident occurred Wednesday morning in northern Italy when a small two-seater aircraft crashed in the mountainous Piedmont region after colliding with cable car wires near the Campliccioli dam. Both occupants were killed instantly.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. near Lake Campliccioli in Valle Antrona, at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) above sea level, close to the Swiss border. According to Italian reports, the small plane struck cables suspended above the reservoir, burst into flames, and plummeted to the ground engulfed in fire.

The victims were identified as Alessandro Angelo Moschinelli, 62, an engineer from Premeno, and Antonella Pagliarini, 63, from Milan. The pair had departed earlier that morning for what was intended to be a brief flight in the small aircraft.

But behind this tragedy lies a detail that makes the incident particularly traumatic.

The person on the ground who was filming the flight and witnessed the crash was the pilot's brother and the partner of the woman seated beside him in the aircraft. In a single moment, he watched both of the people closest to him die.

According to reports, he was found in a state of severe shock following the crash.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the area. Fire brigades, police, and rescue teams arrived at the scene, though the remote mountainous terrain complicated both rescue operations and the subsequent investigation.

The investigation is expected to focus on how the aircraft came into contact with the cables. The cables struck by the aircraft belong to a cable car system serving the dam area. Images and videos from the crash site documented the plane hitting the cables, catching fire, and then plunging to the ground.
