The war in the south. In the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip and in the entire south, many Holocaust survivors reside who were forced to leave their homes due to the fighting in the south. The extent of the disaster has yet to be clarified, but among the abductees, there are also Holocaust survivors who were taken from their homes in a cruel manner by Hamas terrorists.
Deputy Minister Uri Maklev convened an emergency discussion regarding the Holocaust survivors along with all the organizations responsible for their well-being. Since the beginning of the war, 944 calls have been received by the emergency hotline of the Holocaust Survivors Authority.
Maklev held an emergency discussion with all the organizations that care for Holocaust survivors in the Holocaust Survivors Authority. During the discussion, the representatives of the Holocaust Survivors Authority presented the painful data, including the fact that one Holocaust survivor was killed along with his personal caregiver in the terrorist attack in the south. Additionally, two Holocaust survivors lost their children in the disaster, and the family members of one of them were kidnapped. About 580 Holocaust survivors were forced to evacuate their homes due to the ongoing war.
At the opening of the discussion, Deputy Minister Maklev presented the needs, emphasizing that these needs are currently growing stronger. People are experiencing significant difficulties, and especially Holocaust survivors require our assistance and help. He stated, "We are adapting the Holocaust Survivors Authority's response to the emergency situation that has arisen. All of you are doing important work, and we are here to listen to the needs on which we can take action."
