Speaking via video to the G20 Innovation Ministers Conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Elon Musk presented a striking forecast for the future of robotics. The conference, which focused on artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, and their impact on the global economy, drew technology industry leaders including OpenAI's Sam Altman and Nvidia's Jensen Huang.
According to Musk, the turning point will arrive when robots begin manufacturing other robots. Initially, he suggested, the process will proceed relatively slowly, but it could then accelerate rapidly, creating a compounding effect where increasing numbers of robots produce ever more units. Musk estimated that within a decade, the world could contain at least one billion humanoid robots. He further claimed that each robot might achieve productivity roughly five times that of a human worker. By his calculation, this would mean the collective output of one billion robots could exceed that of the entire human population.
