If you spot a Lamborghini racing down Italian highways with blue lights flashing and police insignia on its sides, it might not be what you think. The Italian supercar manufacturer has delivered a new Lamborghini Temerario to the country's police force, destined for medical missions where every minute can mean the difference between life and death.
The handover ceremony took place at Lamborghini headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, attended by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Lamborghini CEO and Chairman Stephan Winkelmann, and senior Italian police officials. According to the company, the vehicle is designated for "services of the highest social value," including urgent transport of transplant organs and medical materials.
Beneath the police livery sits a genuine supercar. The Temerario features a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of 920 horsepower. Lamborghini's specifications show it rockets from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 213 mph.
But contrary to what one might expect from a police car with such performance, its primary purpose isn't catching speeding drivers. The speed is meant to enable rapid transport of sensitive medical cargo between hospitals and transplant centers, in cases where arrival time can be decisive.
The collaboration between Lamborghini and Italian police isn't new. It began in 2004, when the first Lamborghini Gallardo entered service and was soon used to transport an organ for transplant. The fleet later expanded to include Gallardo LP 560-4, Huracán, and Urus Performante models.
