A wave of antisemitism has rattled the French resort town of Châtel, as dozens of Jewish families vacationing in the area discovered their vehicles defaced overnight with pro-Palestinian graffiti. Local authorities have launched an investigation amid rising concerns over antisemitic incidents across France.

The vandalism sparked alarm among residents and tourists alike, with many expressing fear that this could signal the start of a new surge of antisemitic attacks in the region. Police arrived at the scene to collect evidence, reviewing nearby security footage in an effort to identify the perpetrators.

“This is deeply troubling,” said one vacationer. “We hope the authorities act quickly and decisively to prevent further incidents.”

Rising Antisemitism Across France

The Châtel attack is part of a troubling trend. Recent months have seen a series of antisemitic acts, including an explosion outside a synagogue in La Grande-Motte, where the suspect reportedly displayed a Palestinian flag.

Statistics show a 73% increase in antisemitic incidents in France in 2024 compared to the previous year. Jewish community leaders are calling on French authorities to take stronger measures to ensure the safety and security of Jewish residents and visitors.

“The community urges that all necessary steps be taken to protect Jews in France,” said a spokesperson. “The safety of our people cannot be compromised.”
