Mia Cohen, a 49-year-old therapist, was found brutally murdered in the backyard of her Hadera home, with stab wounds to her throat. Police have arrested her younger brother, known to mental health authorities, as the prime suspect in the killing.

The discovery was made after Mia’s older brother couldn't get hold of her and went to her apartment to check on her. When he got there, he found it in disarray. He noticed a blood-filled fishpond and a suspicious mound of dirt in the backyard, leading to the grim discovery.

Investigations reveal a troubling history of threats and assaults by the suspect against Mia, with the most recent police intervention occurring just two weeks ago, resulting in a restraining order. Despite this, Mia, described as compassionate, continued to care for her brother, allowing him back into her home. Authorities believe an argument escalated into the fatal attack on the night of the murder, after which the suspect allegedly buried her body.

Neighbor Reuven described the suspect as unstable, noting frequent police visits due to his threats and violence toward Mia. “She was a good person who took pity on him. This is how he repaid her,” he said. Close friend Shelly Glickman mourned Mia as “a healer who brought light to the world,” emphasizing her devotion to her brother despite his behavior.

The Women’s Lobby condemned the murder, pointing to the broader crisis of gender-based violence in Israel. CEO Tal Hochman stated, “Ten women have been killed since January. Women are not safe in their own homes.”

Police are continuing their investigation, and the suspect remains in custody. Mia’s dog, Tutti, has been taken in by Glickman.
