Repeat offender who drank and led police on a night chase despite a 10-year ban sentenced to prison, according to a court ruling reported by Kikar HaShabbat
A repeat offender who drove drunk despite a 10-year driving ban and led police on a night chase through Be'er Sheva has been sentenced to prison, according to a recent court ruling reported by Kikar HaShabbat.
According to the report, an officer signaled the driver to stop in the early hours of the morning. The driver kept going, forcing the officer to jump out of the way, and police pursued him until he was blocked in a dead-end street. He then tried to move from the driver's seat to the back seat.
It was the fourth time in a decade that he had been caught driving while banned. The court rejected his lawyer's request for leniency, ruling that rehabilitation attempts outside prison had failed and that he posed a real danger to the public. The sentence includes prison time and an additional long-term driving ban.
