Israel Honors Oct. 7 Hero Eden Zimri With Moving Tribute
A living tribute: The Ministry of Culture and Sport redesigns its official logo using the handwriting of Captain Eden Nimri z"l, the elite swimmer and "Sky Rider" commander who fell on Oct. 7. Minister Miki Zohar: "Eden’s memory is a compass for us all."

In a deeply moving tribute ahead of Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron), the Ministry of Culture and Sport has unveiled a special redesign of its official logo. The familiar institutional font has been replaced with a typeface based on the original handwriting of Captain Eden Nimri z"l, a team commander in the "Sky Rider" unit and an elite swimmer who fell in battle on October 7.
The Warrior Who Embodied Culture and Sport
Captain Eden Nimri, a resident of Modi'in who was 22 at the time of her death, represented the core values of the Ministry in every aspect of her life. She was a professional swimmer on Israel’s national youth team, an achievement-oriented athlete defined by discipline and excellence.
Beyond the pool, Eden was a lover of the arts. As a child, she participated in theater groups and chose to major in theater during high school.
On October 7, 2023, while serving as a team commander in the Artillery Corps’ "Sky Rider" unit (5353), Eden displayed supreme bravery. During the battle at the Nahal Oz outpost, she fought valiantly, using her body to shield her subordinates and ultimately sacrificing her life to save others.
"Behind Every Symbol Stand People and Dreams"
The decision to adopt Eden’s handwriting for the logo is intended to remind the public that behind the national ceremonies, flags, and symbols are individual faces and names, young men and women with dreams and futures cut short.
Minister of Culture and Sport, Miki Zohar:
"The story of Eden Nimri z"l is the story of an entire generation. An outstanding young woman, an athlete, a creator, and a commander who chose to take responsibility at the moment of truth and protect her soldiers with her own body. This Memorial Day, we seek to remember and remind ourselves who we are and what values this country stands for—devotion, leadership, and love of the land. Eden’s memory is a compass for us all."
The temporary logo will accompany all ministry publications and activities throughout the Memorial Day period, serving as a silent but powerful testament to Eden’s spirit and the legacy of the fallen.
