Newly obtained recordings of former Mossad Chief Yossi Cohen show him praising the transfer of Qatari money to Hamas, a stance that directly contradicts his recent public statements, according to an exclusive report by *Kan News*. The recordings, made during a closed conference in June 2022, were broadcast this morning (Monday) on the "Kalman Lieberman" show.
In the recordings, Cohen described the steps taken by Qatar in Gaza and Israel as a "blessing." He is also heard praising the Emir of Qatar, whom he calls a "young man who skipped a generation" and manages the country "with a firm hand."
Cohen states that Qatar "helped us maintain the quiet in Gaza thanks to the suitcases of dollars that were transferred." He acknowledges that "we received criticism for this, but it is a lot thanks to this man."
These remarks stand in stark contrast to an interview Cohen gave to Channel 12 this past weekend, where he attempted to distance himself from the controversial money transfer mechanism.
In that interview, Cohen claimed he had opposed the move, arguing its consequences were disastrous and that it helped strengthen Hamas in the lead-up to the October 7 attack. He assigned responsibility for the mechanism to the Shin Bet and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
