A 53-year-old haredi man is fighting for his life after a choking incident Monday evening in the Ramah Dalet neighborhood of Beit Shemesh. The man lost consciousness at his home during dinner after choking on a piece of schnitzel, prompting family members to call emergency services.
United Hatzalah volunteers who arrived at the scene found the man unresponsive and immediately began advanced resuscitation efforts. According to the emergency medical organization, family members reported that he had suddenly collapsed during the meal after the food became lodged in his airway.
Three United Hatzalah medics, Yoel Lisoer, Benzi Breminka, and Yissachar Yakovzan, were first on scene and described the tense moments: "His family members told us he had choked on schnitzel during the meal and lost consciousness. We performed intensive resuscitation procedures including chest compressions, assisted ventilation, and connected a United Hatzalah defibrillator."
