Immediately after securing parliamentary confidence, Slovenia’s incoming Prime Minister, Janez Janša, announced a radical realignment of the country’s foreign policy regarding Israel.
Within twenty minutes of taking office, Janša ordered the removal of the Palestinian flag that had flown over the government complex for the past two years.
Janša leveled harsh criticism at the outgoing left-wing government, stating they had dragged bilateral relations with Israel to an unprecedented low. "Israel is a strategic partner because it contributes to regional stability and the fight against terrorism," Janša declared, emphasizing that Israel shares Europe's democratic values of liberty and the rule of law.
