Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old California resident suspected of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, has been officially charged in federal court with the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. During his initial interrogation, Allen reportedly confessed to his intent to harm senior members of the Trump administration. The incident, which took place on Sunday evening at the Washington Hilton, forced Secret Service agents to quickly evacuate the President, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance to a secure location after shots were fired near the entrance of the ballroom.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that an emergency security summit, led by the Chief of Staff and involving senior national security and Secret Service officials, will be held early next week.
