Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old California resident suspected of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, has been officially charged in federal court with the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. During his initial interrogation, Allen reportedly confessed to his intent to harm senior members of the Trump administration. The incident, which took place on Sunday evening at the Washington Hilton, forced Secret Service agents to quickly evacuate the President, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance to a secure location after shots were fired near the entrance of the ballroom.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that an emergency security summit, led by the Chief of Staff and involving senior national security and Secret Service officials, will be held early next week. The goal of this meeting is to enhance security protocols ahead of several high-profile events, ensuring that the President’s safety remains the administration's top priority. Leavitt defended the performance of the Secret Service, rejecting suggestions of a security failure by noting that the rapid response of agents successfully neutralized the threat and protected the President and other senior officials.

Addressing the rise of online conspiracy theories suggesting the event was staged for political gain, Leavitt urged the public to rely on verified facts provided by the Department of Justice and the FBI. She emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that the administration is committed to exposing the truth as quickly as possible to counter misinformation. As Allen prepares for his initial court appearance, federal authorities continue to investigate the full extent of his motives. The incident has left the nation shaken but resolute, with officials underscoring that the bravery of the security detail prevented what could have been a catastrophic tragedy.
