In a stunning revelation that has shaken the Canadian capital, authorities in Ottawa confirmed that the person charged with defacing the city’s Holocaust memorial was none other than Ian Aspinlieder, the municipality’s chief legal advisor. The 46-year-old was arrested and terminated from his position after allegedly spray-painting the words “FEED ME” in giant red letters across the national Holocaust monument.

Officials have charged Aspinlieder with criminal mischief over $5,000, defacing a monument, and harassment. He is also suspended from the Ontario Bar Association pending trial.

Aspinlieder, who previously identified as non-binary and used they/them pronouns, was a long-time public servant with an annual salary of roughly $148,000.

The Holocaust monument, designed by renowned Jewish-American architect Daniel Libeskind, was named one of the 24 most beautiful structures in the world just one week after the vandalism.
