Gateshead Yeshiva Mashgiach Collapses Mid-Shiur, Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Severe Stroke
Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Salomon suffers acute stroke with brain hemorrhage while delivering weekly mussar talk • Son of legendary Lakewood mashgiach hospitalized in ICU | Prayers intensify (Jewish World)

HaGaon Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Salomon, mashgiach of Yeshivas Tiferes Yaakov in Gateshead, England, collapsed suddenly during Shabbos while delivering his weekly shmuess to the yeshiva's talmidim. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a serious stroke accompanied by severe cerebral bleeding, rachmana litzlan. He is currently in the intensive care unit and his condition is described as critical.
Tragedy Strikes Eleven Months After Brother's Death
The medical crisis comes amid profound personal loss for the Salomon family. Exactly eleven months ago, on the 17th of Tammuz 5785, Rabbi Salomon's brother, HaGaon Rabbi Chizkiyahu Moshe Shlomo Salomon zt"l, passed away at just 59 years old after a difficult illness. Rabbi Chizkiyahu Moshe Shlomo had previously served as mashgiach of Sunderland Yeshiva in Gateshead.
Just days before this latest tragedy, family members and talmidim gathered for the unveiling of Rabbi Chizkiyahu Moshe Shlomo's matzeivah. The timing has added a layer of anguish to an already devastating situation, as the family confronts another life-threatening medical emergency while still mourning their recent loss.
The Salomon family's connection to the world of Torah leadership runs deep. Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda's father, Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon zt"l, was one of the most influential mussar personalities of the modern era, shaping generations of students at Lakewood's flagship yeshiva. His sons have carried forward that legacy in Torah centers across the globe.
International Prayer Campaign Mobilizes
Yeshiva Tiferes Yaakov students, many of whom witnessed the collapse firsthand, have organized continuous prayer vigils. The shock of seeing their revered mashgiach suddenly incapacitated during what should have been a routine Shabbos shiur has galvanized the student body into action.
The call for prayers has spread rapidly across the international Torah community. Thousands of talmidim and admirers of Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon zt"l in Lakewood and beyond are davening for the recovery of his son. The name being circulated for tehillim is Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda ben Miriam.
Sources close to the family indicated that Rabbi Salomon's condition remains extremely serious, with medical staff working to stabilize him and prevent further complications from the brain hemorrhage. The coming days are expected to be critical in determining the trajectory of his recovery.
Gateshead's Torah community, already reeling from recent losses and the ongoing pressures facing yeshiva students across the UK, has united in support of the Salomon family. Similar scenes of communal solidarity have played out recently as Torah leadership confronts multiple crises simultaneously.
Please daven for a refuah shleimah for Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda ben Miriam.
