A police dog helped officers uncover a weapon buried deep in the ground in Um al-Fahm, Israel Police said Tuesday.
Officers from the Um al-Fahm station, together with fighters from the police tactical division and a K-9 handler, carried out targeted sweeps in an open area of the city as part of the ongoing campaign against illegal weapons in Arab society. During the search, the dog signaled a suspicious spot in the ground. Officers dug at the site and found a weapon that had been hidden underground.
The weapon was seized and sent to the police forensic lab to gather evidence and identify those who hid it.
"The Israel Police will continue to act proactively and offensively to locate illegal weapons, wherever criminals try to hide them, in order to prevent shooting incidents and strengthen public security," police said.
