Captain Shachar Gamla of the Egoz reconnaissance unit fell in combat in southern Lebanon, the Golan Regional Council announced Saturday. He was 24 years old.

Gamla was seriously wounded overnight Thursday into Friday during fighting in Lebanon and died of his wounds Saturday morning.

A native of the Golan Heights, Gamla is survived by his parents, Yishai and Lea, and his siblings Rotem and Nitzan. His mother Lea serves as director of the children and youth department at the Golan Community Center.

The family chose to donate his organs, so that Shachar continues to save lives even in death.

His funeral will be held Sunday at Moshav Keshet. Further details regarding the funeral and shiva will be announced.

The Golan Regional Council asked the public to respect the family's privacy at this time.

"The Council and all of the Golan salute the soldiers of the IDF who continue in these days to defend the state," the council said in its announcement. "In hope and prayer for good news for all of the people of Israel."
