As tensions continue in the north, the Transportation Ministry participated in an all-government emergency exercise to prepare for a possible war in the north with Hezbollah.

The presumption is that such a war would include successful missile attacks on Israel's power-generation capacity and other vital infrastructures, which could endanger the lives of Israeli civilians and imperil vital strategic routes and capabilities.

The Transportation Ministry, which is charged with keeping public transportation, roads, airports, and ports functional even in wartime, has started work on defining critical roles and jobs, as well as ensuring the option of manual operation of transportation absent electricity. The ministry also has a fleet of diesel operated vehicles to replace the electricity-powered trains in the event of a blackout.

Long-term, the ministry's effort to establish solar farms within parcels of land "surrounded" by road junctions is meant to provide alternative sources of energy if plants are hit.
