Israel-Gaza War, State Commission of Inquiry

Gantz to propose formation of State Commission of Inquiry for October 7

As tensions build between members of the war cabinet, Minister Benny Gantz announced today (Thursday) that he will submit a proposal soon to establish a state commission of inquiry for October 7 and the period preceding it.

According to the State Camp party chairman: "Close to eight months have passed since the greatest disaster since the founding of the state. We all saw the difficult footage from the kidnapping at Nahal Oz, we all see the public debate regarding the warning that was or wasn't given to the Prime Minister. There is no doubt - the period and events prior to October 7, and the continuation of the campaign since, are a national earthquake which we must learn from."

According to him, "in this time, it's no longer enough that we take responsibility for what was - we must take responsibility and act, so that it does not happen again. The only way to do so is through a state commission of inquiry which needs to be established as soon as possible. I intend to submit a resolution proposal soon to establish it, so that the commission can get organized when work begins on an agreed upon date."

He added that "this is the right thing for the continued functioning of the state, and this will also help us with the international legal challenges we face."
