Clash Over Accountability
Opposition demands from Knesset Speaker: "Apologize to the bereaved families"
The Knesset's conduct during the 40 Signatures discussion sparked outrage after bereaved families and families of hostages were prevented from entering the public gallery and even faced violence. Now, opposition faction leaders are demanding an apology.

Opposition faction leaders have approached the Knesset Speaker demanding clarification and an apology for the parliament's treatment of bereaved families and families of hostages during yesterday's 40 Signatures discussion. According to them, the families were prevented from entering the public gallery, despite it being empty, under the justification of preventing violence and limiting the number of attendees.
According to received testimonies, Knesset Guard personnel directed violence toward family members when they tried to enter, forcibly pushing them back, to the point of injury. The opposition claims that the directives came directly from the offices of the Knesset Speaker and the Director General, and that this constitutes a serious violation of the Knesset's dignity and of the families who lost their loved ones in the national tragedy of October 7.
After intervention by several Knesset members, representatives of the families were finally allowed to enter the visitors' gallery, but even there, when they expressed quiet protest, they were asked to leave.
The opposition faction leaders are demanding clear explanations about the nature of these directives, as well as a public apology to the families who were hurt by this shameful conduct. "These events are a stain on the Knesset under your management," they wrote to the Knesset Speaker, while demanding assurance that such incidents will not recur in the future.
