Intense rainfall from Storm Byron struck the central Israeli city of Yavne this afternoon, turning a large parking lot into a lake in minutes and completely submerging dozens of parked cars.

Dramatic footage shows dozens of cars completely submerged in a parking lot in the central Israeli city of Yavne after torrential rain from Storm Byron caused sudden and severe flash flooding this afternoon.
Firefighters and paramedics from the Central District are currently operating at multiple locations across the city and surrounding lowland areas, rescuing people trapped inside vehicles that were overtaken by the rapidly rising water.
So far, 14 people have been rescued from flooded cars. Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency teams, including a specialized Unimog all-terrain rescue vehicle, are on scene assisting with the evacuations and standing by to provide medical treatment if needed.The heaviest flooding struck Yavne around midday, turning streets and parking areas into lakes within minutes.
Yavne Municipality stated that all roads are gradually being reopened and traffic is slowly returning to normal. A municipal spokesman stressed: “Contrary to some reports circulating online, we wish to emphasize that there have been no casualties or injuries. All incidents are being handled quickly and professionally by our field teams.”
Storm Byron continues to pound central and southern Israel with heavy rain, strong winds and widespread flooding warnings.
