Who is Nava Rozolyo? Anti-Netanyahu Protest Activist Joins 26th Knesset Race

Prominent protest activist Nava Rozolyo announced that she is entering politics and will run for a place on the Democrats list led by Yair Golan.

Rozolyo, 40, is an attorney and accountant who has become one of the more visible figures in the protest movement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the current government. She is also known as the founder of the “Shame Guards” protest movement, which was established as part of the campaign against the government’s judicial reform.

Her move comes as the election campaign for the 26th Knesset continues to take shape, with several parties trying to recruit recognizable public figures from civil society, the protest movement and the security establishment.

In a social media post announcing her decision, Rozolyo said the struggle she had helped lead in the streets was now moving into the political arena.

“The fight for home is moving up a stage,” she wrote. “I am proud to join a professional and excellent team, and to run for a place on the Democrats list for the Knesset.”

Rozolyo said she intends to bring the energy of the protest movement into the Knesset.

“With the fighting spirit of our struggle in the streets in recent years, we will return Israel to its path as a liberal democracy, establish responsible, values-based and worthy leadership, and restore sanity and hope to Israel,” she wrote.

Her entry may strengthen the Democrats’ appeal among protest voters, though it also comes amid internal tension in the party over reserved slots and the limited number of realistic places expected to be open in the primaries.
