Tragedy strikes Rekhasim, near Haifa, as baby dies in fire

A one-year-old perishes, while a 40-year-old man fights for his life after an electric bike battery ignites a deadly blaze.

A one-year-old baby died in Rekhasim, near Haifa, as a result of a fire that apparently broke out as a result of a bicycle battery that caught fire. A 50-year-old man was evacuated with multiple burns from the scene in serious condition to Rambam Hospital.

In addition, another man, about 30 years old, sustained minor injuries due to smoke inhalation, but refused to be taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Haim Attia, a United Hatzalah medic, said: "This is the body of a toddler who was located by firemen inside the apartment that caught fire. We also provided assistance at the scene to a 40-year-old victim suffering from breathing problems as a result of smoke inhalation."
