Reservists Called to Action
IDF gears up for major Gaza offensive, Set to mobilize reservists next week
The IDF is preparing to escalate operations in Gaza next week, mobilizing additional reservists to support the effort if hostage talks fail. The military aims to pressure Hamas, secure hostages, and facilitate humanitarian aid distribution through protected zones.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is gearing up for an intensified phase of operations in the Gaza Strip, slated to commence next week if hostage negotiations with Hamas fail to yield a breakthrough. In preparation, the IDF has begun notifying reserve commanders to mobilize additional reservists, a move not previously scheduled. Some of these reservists will bolster active-duty forces in offensive operations, while others will replace regular brigades deployed to Gaza, ensuring operational continuity.
The renewed manoeuvres, which resumed after the collapse of a ceasefire on March 18, 2025, aim to secure the release of hostages, exert military pressure on Hamas to advance negotiations, and dismantle the terrorist organization. Since the resumption of hostilities, the IDF has reported eliminating over 400 terrorists and striking more than 1,800 targets across Gaza. The military’s strategy combines targeted strikes with ground operations to weaken Hamas’s infrastructure and leadership.
On the humanitarian front, the IDF’s Chief of Staff has emphasized facilitating aid distribution in an efficient manner, though IDF personnel will not directly handle the process. Instead, the military has proposed establishing secure aid distribution zones, managed by international organizations and private companies, with IDF protection to ensure safety and order. This approach aims to address Gaza’s humanitarian needs while maintaining operational focus.
The decision to expand operations and call up reservists reflects the IDF’s determination to achieve its objectives amid ongoing challenges. As the situation evolves, the military remains poised to adapt its strategy, balancing intense combat operations with diplomatic efforts to secure the hostages’ release. The coming week will be critical in determining whether negotiations or military escalation will shape the next phase of the conflict, with reservists playing a pivotal role in sustaining the IDF’s efforts.
